This helps him and his team create personalised care plans that balance safety with independence and choice.
Matthew also champions care that focuses on wellbeing and quality of life. Under his leadership, the team has reduced the need for medication by supporting residents through meaningful activities, sensory experiences, and strong relationships.
Speaking after receiving the national award, Matthew said: “I’m incredibly proud to receive this recognition, but even more proud of the team around me who bring our vision for dementia care to life every day. Great dementia care is about understanding the person - who they are, what matters to them, and what a great day looks like for them - and creating the right environment for them to thrive. To be recognised for something I’m so passionate about is truly humbling.”
Sarah Lydon, Home Manager at Adswood Lodge, added: “Matthew brings so much to our home and our team, and makes a real difference to the people we support every day. His passion for improving dementia care and supporting others to learn and grow really shines through. We’re incredibly proud of him, and this national recognition is thoroughly deserved.”
